Restatement of what RFI is all about
If
you will bear with me to take a few minutes to tell you what RFI means to me
personally.
For
most of us, as we go through our lifetime struggling to make money, to pay the
bills, buying a house, raising our kids, sending them to school, etc., we do not
have a chance to do something beneficial for the environment that we so depend
on for our well being – especially the water we drink and the air we breath
– but also and even more importantly to replace the natural resources that are
vital for our children and future generations.
We know that oil reserves which we depend on so much to drive our
luxurious cars and trucks has reached a point of depletion of most all known
reserves and those left have a finite date of depletion.
Our forests are being harvested and exploited for profits before maturity
and poorly managed by the industry and by the private landowner as well.
If these trends continue, it is inevitable that the standard of living of
future generations will suffer. We
must attain sustainability or even better increase the quality and quantity of
our timber production for future generations to prosper.
On our 400 acres it is possible to at least double the timber production
with proper management.
Furthermore,
I personally feel privileged that I am in a position to have the opportunity to
participate in an endeavor that can change the way we manage our forests for the
benefit of future generations by creating a model as to how our forest should be
managed.
